Bienvenidos a Miami!

The last two weeks have literally been a blur and a blast! A week in Miami was great, but the week before was just as busy.  That Monday was fabulous- I got a facial (which is so needed during this pregnancy..I've been breaking out like a teenager!) and then had dinner with a great friend for her big 4-0! Whoo!  Check us out:

Mike had his 'Daddy Boot Camp' class this week, which he wasn't crazy excited about, BUT he actually seemed to really liked it.  I thought it was funny when he told me about how the teacher discussed how the men really need to work on their bond with their children.  He was saying how the lady suggested Home Depot dates or some other type of father/daughter excursion.  I thought that was cutest thing!  Could you imagine Mike pushing his little Gracie around Home Depot talking to her about the nails or whatever! :)
I also had a doctor appointment this week where they did my glucose testing.  It was a pretty simple appointment where they just took my blood and listened to the heart beat! :)  I was a little stressed since I gained 4 MORE pounds!  I have officially gained the total amount of weight that I should throughout my whole pregnancy-not good.  BUT, my doctor had some comforting words of- "Some people just gain the weight."  Thanks doc!

MIAMI!

On Saturday morning we flew into Miami, and let me take this moment to complain about the flight.  For all of our flights, Mike and I were in the middle and window seats and American Airlines has the smallest seats possible.  Mike and prego over here spent the four hours squirming and complaining- not pretty.  Plus, about half way through the flight my teeny gust of air from the vent quit blowing- so I then began to sweat in my cocoon! Ugh!
We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Miami and we were happy to find out that we were really close to 'Bayside'-which is an awesome place with shopping, restaurants, live music, and right on the beach!  That night we just spent the time walking around and doing some shopping.  We ate dinner at 'Bubba Gump Shrimp,' and it was fabulous!  It was pretty pricey, but so delicious!

You could definitely tell we were on vacation because every single day we slept until at least 11.  We felt old because usually we sleep that late since we stay out so late at night, but since I'm pregnant we had some pretty early nights-BUT still slept half the day away.  I think we're just stocking up some sleep before we can't sleep until noon anymore! :) On Sunday, we decided to hit up South Beach.  We took a cab down there, and told him to take us to a good place for lunch...he took us to a great Cuban diner.   After lunch we just started walking down the beach-which was actually really busy.  We wanted to find a spot that wasn't too busy-that way we could leave our stuff at our umbrella and still be able to see it from the water.  Well, we walked down a ways until we saw some vacant umbrellas, set up our towels, and got nice and settled.  Once we got out into the water, all you could see were rainbow umbrellas and I noticed I was literally the only girl in the water for as far as you could see.  Come to find out, we were lounging at 'Pride Beach,' which was fine for us b/c it was definitely entertaining!  I felt like I was in Europe all over again- men walking around in the Speedos (only difference was these guys were waxed from head to toe!) and women sunbathing topless...everywhere!

Notice the couple lathering up behind us!

I have to tell you a story about a group of girls that stormed in on this peaceful, happy place.  We were all lying around happily enjoying the sunshine and scenery, when this group of about 10 girls walked up and started trying to move all the umbrellas around.  The umbrella guy came up and told them they would have to pay, and couldn't have certain umbrellas b/c peoples things were underneath them (go figure) and they were not happy.  They started causing a scene and griping about everything.  Well, there was a family next to us- a mom, dad, and teenage son.  They had been quietly reading under their umbrella when these girls walked up, and of course they were now staring at them..like everyone else.  Well, one of the girls DID NOT like them looking at them and proceeded to say: "Turn around bitch!  You see these tats?!  There from prison where I killed bitches and white people!!"  Probably a good thing these people didn't speak English.  Needless to say, the entertainment level only rose after their arrival!
After the beach, we walked a little bit down Washington Avenue where we ran into DASH.  I was very excited to buy a little sumthin from the store, BUT I did not budget this in to my vacation.  It was a little more expensive then I was planning-although Mike did find a DASH bottle of water for $10. Ouch.

That evening, we went back to 'Bayside' and signed up for a 'Millionaire's Row' boat tour.  It was so much fun.  The weather was perfect, and we timed it to where it was during sunset.
When we got back from the cruise, we walked around Bayside a bit, and had some dinner.  We heard another interesting quote during our walk.  There was a mom walking with her son (who was probably 3 or 4), and it was one of those walks where you could tell the kid was in trouble and she was holding his hand a little too high where one of his legs can't quite reach the ground, you know?  As they walk next to us all we hear the mother say to her son is, "If you cry, you ain't getting shit!"  Well, there you go.

On Monday:
We went to the Miami Zoo.  This place is so beautiful and HUGE.  I am not exaggerating when I say I swear we walked at least 5 miles!  They had some animals I had never even heard of before and some great exhibits!

They had two great elephant exhibits, and we got to feed giraffes AGAIN.  We also saw the biggest kangaroo I've ever seen!  It's head looked like a horse head!  One of the kangaroos had a baby in it's pouch too-you could see its little legs hanging out, and every now and then it would poke its little head out! :)
We heard another funny quote at the zoo.  There was a little boy with his mom, and he asked his mom-with the most assurance-, "Mom, did you know that camels weigh 600 thousand pounds?"  Hmmm, did not know that!

On Tuesday:

We used our Groupon for an Everglades tour!  We went to South Beach to meet our tour group, where we loaded up on a charter bus.  The bus driver was a lovely fellow.  One of the passengers asked him if the restroom on the bus worked, and his exact response was, "No!  People broke it - they ruin everything!"  Hmmmm--people ruin everything...well, okay then.  Anyway, we spent the next 30 minutes driving through South Beach with Mr. Sunshine.  Once we got to Gator Park, we loaded up on our airboats when it started pouring down rain...oh well!  The airboats were so fun!  They were surprisingly smooth.  It was interesting to me how laid back the captains were too.  I was on the edge, and could stick my hand out and touch the water--that means that an alligator could jump up and bite my arm off too!  All part of the experience, I guess.  We also went faster than I though we would, which was fun.  AND, luckily, we saw one alligator.  They told us that storming and rain makes it harder to see them, so I was afraid that we wouldn't.

After the boat ride, we had an educational animal show.  The guy was very entertaining and interesting.  As we walked in, he was holding the biggest scorpion I have ever seen!  While he was talking about it, he pretended that he tripped and almost landed on me!  That scorpion was literally touching me-almost in my lap!
After the show, we got to take our picture with a small alligator and look around the place.  Very cool- and not AT ALL something you could find in Dallas.

On our way home in the bus, we saw a dead alligator on the side of the road-a pretty big one too!  That was pretty crazy!

There were these two girls on our tour that were a little stripper-ish, if you know what I'm saying.  They were a few bricks short of a load, as Mike would say.  Well, I was walking around their gift shop and at the front desk they had a jackelope in the case.  The guy at the front was going into this in depth story/explanation of jackelopes, and the girls were all into it and thought this guy was just sooo smart. Haha!

After we got back from the tour, we walked down Lincoln Road and Washington for a little bit..where we ran into 'Miami Ink.'

ON WEDNESDAY:

Our last day---we went to the Seaquarium, which was supposed to be a lot like Sea World.  Well, I think we're just spoiled with Sea World but it was still really good, nonetheless.  The Killer Whale show was cool because we were soo close to the aquarium- a kid could've jumped on in if they wanted to.  It was also cool because the whale was swimming around with dolphins.  Never seen that.  They also had manatees and a lot of sea turtles, which Sea World does not have.  Something else that was awesome about the Seaquarium is that 'Flipper' was actually filmed there, and Flipper's ancestors were in the dolphin show.  Also, Snowflake's (from Ace Ventura) children were in the show too.

I also thought the sea lion show was really good.  It was amazing how close the animals go to you.  Check it out:
The dolphin show where the show, "Flipper" used to be filmed.
On Wednesday night, we had a final trip to Bayside where Mike had a few more daquiris from his favorite spot, and we enjoyed a little live music!!  Just trying to savor our last final moments of Miami.  Let me tell you--Miami reminded us SO MUCH of Europe.  It is exactly the same--from the smells, to the shops, to the people.  I don't think I ever heard people talking English either.  If you've never been to Europe, Miami is definitely a close second!
