How Far Along? 33 weeks & 2 days

Can you see that little girl standing there?
|
This week your baby weighs a little over 4 pounds and has passed the 17-inch mark (about the size of a pineapple). He's rapidly losing that wrinkled, alien look and his skeleton is hardening. The bones in his skull aren't fused together, which allows them to move and slightly overlap, thus making it easier for him to fit through the birth canal. (The pressure on the head during birth is so intense that many babies are born with a conehead-like appearance.) These bones don't entirely fuse until early adulthood, so they can grow as his brain and other tissue expands during infancy and childhood.
Total Weight Gain: Still somewhere between 30-35 pounds. Still plateued.
Maternity Clothes: Having to be creative-- and probably not staying within school dress code 100%, but I'm making it work.
Stretch Marks: Still good
Sleep: My level of exhaustion has gone up since school started this week, so sleep has been easier--but I am hot all night every night. Uncomfortable and unfamiliar feeling for me!
Best moment of this week: These last 10 days have been JAM-PACKED! Last weekend was a quick whirlwind. One of our best friends from college got married in Brownfield, so we left Grace with Loli & Pop (and Uncle Willie and cousins Fiona & Chloe). We left Saturday after (yet another) delicious breakfast at Cracker Barrel. That place just never gets old! On our way, the car was having some serious problems. The cruise wouldn't stay on and there were times we couldn't get the speed past 40 MPH....not good for highway driving! After spending 2 hours at the Weatherford Nissan dealership, we learned that our transmission fluid keeps overheating. Could've been a lot worse because they did a 'quick' fix for us and didn't charge us anything- so we could be on our way. Bad news is that sometime this week, we'll have to take it to the dealership and have some 'long term' adjustments made!
After leaving the dealership, we knew we would be cutting it close. We drove straight there (with a quick snack stop, of course) and barely got there for starting time. Good thing I got ready in the car!

Funyuns are my road trip staple, but the sour worms were a nice addition!

Since I'm the 9 month DD and I was feeling pretty good, we decided to drive back to Abilene after the wedding to stay with my grandma. We had already booked a hotel (actually more of a no-tell motel), but this way our trip could be cut in half for Sunday!
This was the first time we had 'sent' Grace to the grandparents' for the weekend, so I insisted on consistent updates/pictures! It looked like Grace has an awesome time playing with her cousins! Two of Grace's favorite things: pool time and bath time!
After a quick and unrestful weekend, it was time to prepare for the first week of school! It's so funny...after the first day intros, the rest of the week was just like any other--without skipping a beat. The only difference is that I don't know very many names yet. I am AWFUL at remembering names, which is not good since I teach almost 140 students! I'm excited about this group and have heard some really great things about them. I know I'm going to have some 'challenging' ones, but that's 8th grade! The beginning of the year was a million times easier without having to worry about coaching this year---not having to worry about tryouts and practices! Plus, Mike was out of town Wed-Fri, so I don't know what I would've done! Thankful for that. Besides the fact that I'm trying to adjust to the going back to work all day, it definitely was NOT helpful that the A/C in my room was not functioning until Thursday! I have honestly never sweat so much inside of a building in my life. I had a personal goal of trying to get up and fix my hair at least 4 days a week--WELL, that didn't last during the days in my sauna classroom.

This was my room at 8 am. Miserable.

Grace also started her new schedule this week too! She started her 'Superbabies' class at swim school. This is MUCH better for me because it no longer requires me to get in the pool with her. However, the entire first class pretty much consisted of her and the other little boy taking turns crying for their mommies. It made me feel better when they told me that they literally build in an extra class just for crying and adjustment. They also use M&M's as bribery and reward, which also made me feel better so I know I'm not the only one. Here's a pic...hard to see, but you can see her and her buddy sitting on the edge.

This past weekend, we headed to Abilene for our annual family reunion. It was rather unfortunate that our two teams were playing Friday night during our road trip because we were trying to keep up with both games via phone. Good news is that Tech beat SMU! (Not as badly as I would've liked, but a win's a win, right!?) Unfortunately, Rangers lost- but we got to watch the game they won on Saturday.
All day Saturday and Sunday, we hung out with family and Grace LOVES it! At this point, there are children everywhere---most of whom want to entertain and cater to Grace's every need! Every night, when we got back to the house she passed out.

Turnbow women (minus Faye)
|
 |
Our family contribution to the reunion (missing Landon, Whitney, Mom & Dad) *Mike said this picture made him feel very uncomfortable...he's so much larger than everyone else, so it looks like he's the patriarch or something!
|
Mom and Dad left for Spain Saturday morning and all I know so far is that the flight went well and they have landed safely in Madrid. They've been there a full day now, and I haven't heard any updates again---hopefully that's good news!
 |
Ryleigh, KayLee, & Grace---she's in heaven!
|
 |
Of course Wayne's in the middle of it all!
|
 |
All the great-grandkids (minus Caleb). 1-3 year old and 3-2 year olds!
|
 |
Grace's new thing is to climb on every single piece of furniture, yell "Ready, Go!", and fly off !
|
She also has figured out how to turn the camera to take a picture of herself. The selfies begin!
Miss Anything?: My thirst is a little out of control and I am missing a lot of drinks. Taking away caffeine and artificial sweeteners is the biggest challenge. I also want some exercise! Starting to feel super sluggish!
Movement: Still moving and kicking all over the place!
Food Craving: Still have no appetite. Oatmeal has been a consistent thing that usually sounds good and doesn't give me heartburn--plus it seems to be just filling enough.
Anything making you queasy or sick? Nah. I've been feeling pretty good in the stomach department.
Labor Signs: Stomach has kind of eased in the last couple of days and I've been feeling back to normal. No labor feelings lately.
Symptoms: The itchy stomach is in full swing!!! I remember this from the first pregnancy and it is driving me crazy! The maternity clothes make it worse since they are tight-fitting throughout the day, but I'm trying to lather on the coconut oil and manage it the best I can!
Belly button in or out? Out. BUT- my stomach has gotten so big that my belly button has almost gotten flush with the rest of my skin. This honestly makes me a little nervous at this point that it will never go back in. :(
Wedding rings on or off? On- and still wearing my other rings too. Water retention hasn't seemed to be a problem!
Happy or Moody most of the time: I will admit that I was somewhat moody my first week of school (some teachers can probably attest to that), but I think I'm just making an adjustment and working on my energy level. Now that my classroom is nice and cool, and everything is falling into schedule- it should start to be easier.
Looking forward to: The last three weekends have been crazy and filled with A LOT of driving. I am looking forward to a weekend to be home and have some amazing baby showers for baby Clark! I'm excited to see friends and family and celebrate my little bundle! Plus, we actually get to have some time to grocery shop, do some laundry, and all that fun stuff! I'm a lucky girl!
SOME UPDATES!
After cleaning the living room one day and vacuuming the rug about 100 times, we realized that there was entirely too much dog hair. It was time for a new rug. Thanks to the fabulous deals at Garden Ridge, we were able to find this gem for $100--plus pick up a laundry hamper for Clark's room for $15.

Here are some updated pictures of the nursery. Nothing too big, but there are some pics of the 'skirt' my mom sewed. I think it blends well, and does a good job of pulling the blue from the glider cushions and the crochet blanket (my mom also made).
 |
Grace just can't resist the 'CHEESE', and you can see the $15 laundry hamper under the window.
|
Also, I added the finishing touches to the shelves. The stuffed duck (green-winged teal- Mike informed me) is from my parents. They got it on their one and only duck hunting attempt and apparently were so proud that they had it stuffed. I have Mike's paper from the hospital with his footprints, armbands, and sonogram picture on the second shelf. On the third shelf, I put Clark's sonogram picture, Mike's very first deer horns, and a clear jar of shotgun shells. It's all in the details people! ;)

I also hung the blackout blinds in the room and they do an awesome job making that room DARK. Can't beat $12! Anybody who has ever slept in that room knows that it is beyond bright, so I'm pumped I was able to find a cheap fix. Here's a pic from the very middle of the day!
Also, got our first present in the mail last week for Clark. Thanks Gigi & Gikum!
GETTING READY TO LOSE MY HUSBAND
Is anybody else experiencing the loss of their husbands with the upcoming fall season? I got to spend the entire day witnessing Mike's anticipation for his fantasy draft. Not only were we not allowed to bother him in any way from the hours of 7-8:30, but we had to share the rest of the day time with his mock drafts.
Couldn't resist capturing his look of excitement/anticipation/happiness just moments before the draft!
|
Not only do we share our 'Mike' time with fantasy football, but Patsy sent me this picture--which is also very true!
WARNING
If you are a father of a daughter, you may want to consider napping in a room with a closed door.
Hope you all have a great week and survive this hot weather!!
